It Started with Shells. Peggy grew up on Long Island and spent many enjoyable hours at Jones Beach. Doug grew up in Baltimore but frequently visited Ocean City, MD. Peggy always collected shells. Doug subsequently caught the beach combing bug and we started collecting shells, rocks, driftwood, and sea glass from our travels.
While I no longer live near the beach, I love the idea of bringing the beach into our home by using shells in my art. It started with exploring the world of decoupauge, essentially decorating something with paper. I began experimenting with tissue paper and napkins and adding my own embellishments. I found I could incorporate my first love of photography in shell art to make unique pictures. Each shell is unique and even the broken ones are beautiful. Decoupage has unleashed in inner creativity i didn't know existed!
Our products use shells as the basis for most of our art. The shells are decoupaged and embellished to make ornaments or ring/earring dishes or are incorporated onto my photographs to make 3-D pictures. Although, not shell related, using the art of decoupage, I created coasters using photographs of our travels.
I love finding the right image to fit the shell to make each shell unique. Each shell shape will result in a different piece of art.
